The past two weeks have just been an amazing mix of emotions. Spent a great week in the mac lab with my friend Emily and her class followed by learning she had been RIFed from work in the district massacre. The anticipation of receiving transfers just about tore the staff to pieces, tensions were high. Sweet relief from anger and pain came when our students staged daily protests afterschool begging passersby to "honk and save our teachers". It was a bittersweet reminder of just how close these relationships have grown. Good teachers don't deserve to be RIFed. Our principal has been put in one of the worst spots you can imagine. Transfers came today, a few were terrible shocks. A few, give me hope.
This can be a fresh start for people, a chance for renewal and learning. The universe came out of chaos and I believe that in chaos, real learning, real growth can occur. It's really a great time for reflection.
For now, I will make cupcakes for Perla and try and get some rest. Summer starts on Wednesday and it really is time to just breathe.
