life.lemons and lemoncello...

So the local news authorities are reporting that our fire was started while trying to heat our chicken coop...let's just set the record straight:
Yes, we were heating the chicken coop, it's been subfreezing and we don't want the girls to freeze to death. BUT, the fire was due to faulty wiring in our garage built over 50 years ago, end of story. At least as far as Fox12 should be concerned. Anyhoo...

The past two days have been amazing. We're absolutely exhausted emotionally and physically and more than a wee bit overwhelmed. Both Kieran and I roll through a myriad of coping techniques from laughing to crying, anger to anguish, shock to awe...(sorry, couldn't resist that for some reason)

One thing that is remaining constant is our gratitude. We are well aware that we have only lost "items". Not our lives, nor our loved ones, nor our livlihood. As painful as that is, we can cope. If I start to feel the least bit sorry for myself I simply look around at the countless, and yes I mean countless, offers of assistance from our friends and coworkers. I know at times Kieran and I may seem detatched but we're simply overwhelmed. In spite of all our confusion about what we may or may not need, where we may or may not be, we are extremely grateful.

You all have been amazing wonderful reminders of what is really precious in our lives. Today, a group of total strangers to us answered a dear friend's email and came to our aid. Tonight, what I mean by "precious" is pints of Ben and Jerry's Cheesecake Brownie and Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream.

I have the lemons, I have the ice...Bring on the Lemoncello. ;)
