Wapato Trail, Sauvie Island

Woke up this morning to an absolutely beautiful day! After a quick jaunt to the Parkrose Farmer's Market (to pick up a fully delicious tamale) we decided to take Baloo for a walk on Sauvie Island.

First of all- I absolutely love Sauvie Island. It is a treasure any time of year; Winter=bald eagles and geese, Spring=lavendar and greenery and gorgeous, Summer= luscious fruit and veggies, Fall=amazing views of the west hills in full autumnal splendor and pumpkin picking parties.

Secondly-Some quality Baloo time was in order. He is sooo happy to be out and about, today was too good to pass up.

The Wapato Trail is an easy, not-too-long jaunt through farmland, riparian/cottonwood habitat. This morning the songbirds were out in force. At the beginning of the walk it was actually loud on the trail. As we left the cottonwoods it quieted down and we could hear the frogs in the swampland chirping away. The funny thing is at one point it sounded less like "ribbit, ribbit, ribbit" and more like "beer, beer, beer".

After our hike we took a quick drive around the island and saw the largest blue heron I've ever seen, a group of men catching sturgeon (and they had quite a few), a creepy guy parked by the clothing optional area which was very crowded, a couple answering the call of spring by the Lighthouse trailhead (eeeeewwwww), and three bald eagles. Two were on a thermal and I swear they were a mile up and one did a fly by and checked us out. Tried to take a picture...failed.

These are days to treasure. It was wonderful.
